Research - May 6

I just came in from taking the recycling to the bins and collecting the mail. In the mail was a card truly intended for property owners with land, not apartment dwellers (and particularly not apartment dwellers who rent). But I suppose it was simpler to send it to every local resident.

It was a notice that a group is going to do a study of a local creek, and wants permission to go across property to do so. Provisions are given in the message for denying such, along with a mention that "no trespassing" signs and fences will be honored.

I'm having a good giggle at the notion of a researcher coming to my apartment, which does not have a back door, to get to the creek bed, which is actually not on the complex property but is indeed quite a few yards behind the building.

I'm wondering if the researcher will be some robot who will plunder through the place, creating a robot-sized doorway to the apartment behind mine, continuing through that apartment and out its door, only to go across the open land.

Open land which could have been more easily accessed by walking beside my building, but the research robot might not have been programmed to deal with the concept of "beside."

Although no response to their message is needed from me, I'm half tempted to send the researchers a note anyway, thanking them for the best laugh I've had all day.
