Listing - June 10 Here's part of my day, in list form. 1. I got up and was ready in plenty of time to get the bus to go to work. Only the bus was being driven by a substitute (I later learned) who left early. So I came back home, called to say I was running late, and put my keys down on the table, instead of putting them in my pocket. 2. Wrong move and wrong table. When it came time to leave for the next bus (for which I left early myself, guessing correctly that there was a substitute driver on the route today who didn't really know the schedule), I couldn't find my keys. I grabbed my spare door key and figured worst-case would be that I'd have to borrow a key to the office's back door from someone and get that person to lock the rest of the office. 3. Got to the office to find it locked. The neighboring attorney from whom we rent part of our office space was just leaving, so she let me in through her office, but that meant I still needed a key to at least one deadbolt to the outside world. And where the hell was everyone else, anyway? 4. While neighboring attorney and I were looking for spare keys (we found one to the back door, but not one that would let me into the main part of our office space), someone called and I could see that the phone on Kathy's desk was used to answer it. As soon as that call ended, I used the intercom to ask that Kathy open the connecting door. 5. Only it wasn't Kathy. It was Rick, and the call had been for me. No worries, the caller had told Rick he'd call later. He didn't leave his name, though, and since another call came in before I had time to try the call-back (star-69) feature, I'm only guessing it was the one person from whom I was expecting a call. He never did call back. 6. Since Rick was there, fully equipped with keys, I bade goodbye to neighboring attorney, but decided my keeping the spare back door key might be a good idea. I'll give it back to her next week. I found out where the unaccounted-for staff members were, and settled in to my work. 7. And Kathy's, which I hadn't planned to do. 8. Rick, after meeting with the client he had come into the office to see, did a couple of admin things in my behalf (as in typed a Power of Attorney form and got me the client's file), then offered me a ride home. I gratefully accepted the help and that offer. 9. Got home. Found my keys. Put them back where they belong, and did likewise with the spare door key. 10. Decided dessert first was definitely appropriate for the evening. 11. Realized I've been at the law firm too much this week. The first word in this entry almost was "hereinafter."
